Safety is the most important value at Heritage Transport. Steve said, “All of our team has pledged to hold ourselves to the highest safety standards. It’s a company-wide effort. Whether at a site or traveling over the road, our focus is to recognize hazards and be intentional with our actions to prevent incidents.”
This commitment to safety is reinforced through our rigorous initial and continuous training that all our drivers complete. All of our drivers have their commercials drivers license (CDL) with hazmat endorsements. Steve said, “Our on-road performance as reflected in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Safety Management System (SMS) supports our efforts to improve safety compliance and prevent motor vehicle incidents.”
Heritage Transport has also adopted several policies and programs to prioritize safety. “Driving” became the newest addition to our 6Safety Life Saving Rules, which are held to the highest standards of safety within the organization.
“We know that driving is one of our biggest risks that our employees face on a daily basis. Unlike other risks, we cannot control environment, so instead we chose to educate our drivers,” Angie Garner, Health & Safety Systems Leader at Heritage, said. “In 2021, we implemented the Smith System as a way to teach drivers about collision avoidance and give them the tools to be successful on the road. Since then, we have added driving to 6Safety and implemented annual Safe Driving training. We utilize in-cab analytics to coach at-risk behaviors and recognize positive trends and will continue that progress in the new year.”
