More Than A Principle, A Defined And Measured Commitment
Since its inception, Heritage has been intimately involved in protecting human health and the environment, a key aspect of sustainable development. Heritage has been safely and compliantly managing hazardous materials, substances and wastes at its network of government-permitted facilities since 1970, and has been a responsible corporate citizen and neighbor in the communities where we operate. Heritage is committed in words and deeds to the hierarchy of eliminate, reduce, reuse, recycle and responsibly treat and dispose of any remaining residuals. Heritage has established multiple businesses and business lines according to these principles.
But sustainability runs much deeper than environmental protection at Heritage. We believe in ethical and mutually-beneficial relationships with all our stakeholders: Customers, Communities, Employees, Regulatory Agencies, Suppliers, and Investors. We intend to create enduring value by leveraging our investments in research, development and relationships to make a difference in the world around us.
This Sustainability Policy is guided by the principles (the seven C’s) listed below:
Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations; and conformance with international norms of behavior;
Conduct of operations to minimize adverse impacts to the environment and the surrounding communities;
Commitment to ongoing investments in our employees, facilities, and Research & Development;
Communication of our sustainability philosophy to stakeholders;
Consideration of the framework found in ISO 26000: Guidance on Social Responsibility and other consensus codes and initiatives, as appropriate, in our activities and reporting to stakeholders;
Choices for our customers and supply chain partners that are more sustainable than the alternatives available in the markets where we operate; and
Continuous improvement of our performance.
These principles are at the core of Heritage’s approach to sustainable development, and will continue to inform and guide our decisions and activities.
