Taylor Harvey                                 Director, Talent Management

When did you start at Heritage (or previously acquired companies) and what was your first position?

I joined Heritage in June 2023 as the Director of Talent Management.

Define a great leader—what are some traits you think great leaders possess?

A great leader is someone who keeps listening and curiosity at the core of their approach. To quote Will Guidara (restaurateur and author), a quality team member and leader is someone who, “is curious about what they don’t know, and generous with what they do”. I believe successful leaders are those who embody a growth mindset and embrace each day as its own opportunity to learn from the team they’re surrounded by

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your career?

I am grateful for the fact that my biggest career challenge was self-imposed. A couple of years into my career, I was fortunate enough to move into a leadership role, however I felt my mechanical skill development had stalled. I opted to move into a new position that may have appeared to others (and certainly my naive self) as a step backwards. However, navigating this move and the associated appearances turned out to be the best route I could have taken – it afforded me the opportunity to develop direct, hands-on skills and technical knowledge, and expand my network to include a variety of high-quality professionals. It also taught me the valuable lesson of considering the ‘big picture’.

Is there a female mentor or coworker you look up to at Heritage? If so, can you give a few reasons why?

I admire the many women I work with every day across Heritage, especially within our Human Resources team. They are fiercely dedicated to supporting current and future employees across the organization and approach each obstacle with a ‘people-first mindset’.

Do you have any tips, strategies you’ve employed, or lessons learned throughout your career that you would like to share with aspiring
female professionals?

What I would share with aspiring female professionals is to ‘own your development’ and seek out opportunities to learn as much as possible. Keep your foot on the gas when it comes to your professional growth, but take the time to look out the window and appreciate the ride too.
