EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Heritage Thermal Services employees are making final preparations for the annual community-wide collection of household hazardous wastes. The facility has sponsored the event since 1997 to commemorate Earth Day.

The free collection of household hazardous wastes, unused pharmaceuticals, old consumer electronics, light bulbs and batteries will take place at the East End facility on April 21 from 8 a.m. – noon.

Since the first community collection, facility employees have recycled or disposed of more than 216 tons of household chemical wastes and old electronics that otherwise would have been poured down the drain or tossed in the trash.

During the collection, the facility will distribute $6,500 in grant checks to 12 school and non-profit groups to help fund worthy environmental projects. Since the company initiated the program in 1998, more than 100 organizations have received more than $87,000 in grants.
