EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Brandishing oversized scissors, Heritage Thermal Services Chairwoman Winde Hamrick and East Liverpool Mayor Jim Swoger cut the ribbon to mark the completion of a $1.4 million concrete storage pad on Dec. 15. They were cheered on my HTS employees and the contractors who worked on the project.

The 30,000 square-foot pad can hold up to 60 27-cubic-yard intermodal containers, which will improve logistics for bulk-solid projects, operational safety onsite and traffic for bulk-solid delivery vehicles. It represents the first expansion beyond the facility’s original fence line.

The foot-thick pad is supported by 417 rammed aggregate piers, 7,000 cubic yards of compacted limestone, 120 tons of rebar and is coated with a chemical-resistant sealant. It is designed to contain a 25-year, 24-hour rainstorm.

Construction of the pad got underway in August after the regulatory approvals were received and engineering work was completed.  Ten companies were engaged for design and construction. The company is proud to say that $1.1 million, or about 80 percent of the project cost, was spent locally.
