EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Despite the ongoing pandemic, Heritage Thermal Services is pleased to continue its environmental grant program this year for non-profit and school organizations. Out of 13 applications that were received, the company awarded a total of $7,730 to 11 applicants. The organizations receiving grants and a description of their projects follow:
$1,000 – NORTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SENSORY GARDEN: Fund in-person and virtual field trips regarding environmental and STEM programs and purchase new plants for the garden.
$1,000 – GARFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Fund the Wellsville school’s first-ever outdoor learning laboratory for K – 3 students.
$1,000 – EAST LIVERPOOL-CALCUTTA AREA GARDEN CLUB: Fund the purchase of materials to install natural stone steps with landscaping between Pavilion One and the upper walking circle in Thompson Park.
$1,000 – CITY OF EAST LIVERPOOL: Fund plants and trees to landscape vacant lots following the demolition of abandoned houses.
$750 – BEAVER CREEK WILDLIFE EDUCATION CENTER: Fund the purchase of resin animals and informational materials for hikers to use on the Logan’s Loop Trail.
$600 – CITY OF EAST LIVERPOOL: Fund veterinary services for the city’s spay/neuter program for stray felines.
$500 – CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY: Fund a virtual program with the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium and purchase take-home science enrichment projects.
$500 – EAST LIVERPOOL HIGH SCHOOL JOB TRAINING PROGRAM: Fund environmentally focused field trips for students.
$500 – CHESTER BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE: Fund landscaping projects at Chester City Park.
$500 – RIVER VALLEY YOUTH BASEBALL: Fund the establishment of a recycling program at the baseball complex.
$380 – KENT STATE EAST LIVERPOOL CAMPUS: Purchase tree seedlings and vegetable plants for students, staff and faculty to plant and reflect on the environment.
Since the facility first distributed environmental grants in 1998, local non-profits have received a total of $114,430 to keep the community cleaner and greener. The grants are just one way that Heritage demonstrates its support for the East Liverpool community.
