EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Shopping malls and restaurants aren’t the only places that are busy during the holidays. Food pantries and community centers are also busy at this time.
In East Liverpool, the Community Resource Center (CRC) provides food and other assistance for needy seniors and other residents. For Thanksgiving, the CRC sponsors a food pantry called A Day of Thanks followed by A Day of Giving. The event took place this year on Nov. 24 – 25.
Helping with the CRC event this year were nearly two dozen employees of Heritage Thermal Services. Although some could volunteer for only a short amount of time, they assisted where ever they were needed.
On the Day of Thanks, employees prepared and served a traditional Thanksgiving meal for more than 65 patrons of the center. They returned the following day with turkeys purchased by the company for the Day of Giving.
They worked side-by-side with staff members and other volunteers from the CRC and Second Harvest to pack and distribute food to more than 300 needy seniors and other patrons. Thanks to these efforts, many local residents are able to have a home-cooked meal for Thanksgiving.
