EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – The numbers are in from the free collection of household hazardous wastes and old electronics that Heritage Thermal Services (HTS) employees sponsored on Earth Day for their neighbors. During a four-hour window, these active environmentalists collected for recycling or proper disposal 13.32 tons of wastes that could have been poured down the drain or tossed in the trash. This year’s volume raises the total amount collected since the program began in 1997 to 229 tons.
During the collection, HTS presented 12 local school and non-profit groups with $6,500 in grants to help fund their respective environmental projects. Among the projects receiving support are a sensory garden at an elementary school, an environmental summer camp and an interactive exhibit at the wildlife education center. Since the grant program began in 1998, HTS has donated $93,750 to support local environmental projects.
