The first electric vehicles (EVs) produced over a decade ago are nearing the end of their life span, and one of the biggest challenges facing the industry is how to best manage the imminent waste stream of spent lithium-ion batteries. Heritage launched a new division, Heritage Battery Recycling (HBR), to address growing market demand for safe, sustainable solutions for lithium-ion batteries near or at end-of-life. HBR’s goal is to recover and reuse critical battery precursor resources that exist in finite supply across the globe.
We’re changing the role environmental services companies play in the EV battery value chain by exploring recycling and refurbishment programs, with an eye toward sustainability goals and the bottom line.
HBR is investing in technology, partnerships and people to help identify the highest and best use of reduced capacity electric vehicle batteries. Our experience with safely handling hazardous waste and managing total byproduct programs makes us a natural fit for collaboration with automotive manufacturers facing this industry-wide problem.
