Heritage Battery Recycling is shaping the future of renewable energy
The first electric vehicles (EVs) produced over a decade ago are nearing the end of their life span, and one of the biggest challenges facing the industry is how to best manage the imminent waste stream of spent lithium-ion batteries. Heritage launched a new division, Heritage Battery Recycling (HBR), to address growing market demand for safe, sustainable solutions for lithium-ion batteries near or at end-of-life. HBR’s goal is to recover and reuse critical battery precursor resources that exist in finite supply across the globe.
We’re changing the role environmental services companies play in the EV battery value chain by exploring recycling and refurbishment programs, with an eye toward sustainability goals and the bottom line.
HBR is investing in technology, partnerships and people to help identify the highest and best use of reduced capacity electric vehicle batteries. Our experience with safely handling hazardous waste and managing total byproduct programs makes us a natural fit for collaboration with automotive manufacturers facing this industry-wide problem.
Millions of electric vehicles (EVs) were sold in the US during the last decade, and demand is growing.
We’re working to solve the spent battery challenge faced by auto manufacturers.
Shane Thompson has been tapped to lead the newly formed Heritage Battery Recycling, LLC. His 20 years of experience, focusing on battery end of life management, has made him one of the world’s leading experts in this rapidly evolving industry.
Shane’s breadth of experience includes: environmental sales for Inco Ltd, (now Vale) one the world’s leading nickel mining companies; driving U.S. policy and regulations related to battery recycling – and later leading the commercial/operations team – during his time at Call2Recycle; process development to recycle NiMH batteries at RediMet, a company he co-founded; commercial leadership at leading North American battery recyclers KBI/Retriev and Battery Solutions; as well advising clients through his consulting firm, Verdant Holdings, Ltd. on recycling nickel and other energy metals and materials (including rare earths) and the industrial and commercial products of which they are essential ingredients.
Heritage doesn’t back away from difficult industry problems. We stand apart from other environmental service companies by tackling challenges head on. Our experience helping customers address complicated waste streams has led us to creating an entity focused solely on recovering value in spent batteries and thinking creatively about our role in the EV battery supply chain. We believe that partnering with Heritage to recycle and refurbish your battery waste will be better for the environment and your business.
