Lab Pack

Lab Pack Program

A lab pack is a method of managing containerized hazardous and non-hazardous materials (including laboratory chemicals and samples, cleaning supplies and maintenance supplies) of five gallons or less for transportation and disposal. Heritage Technical Services Group supplies highly trained field chemist crews to inventory, characterize, segregate and package off-spec, out-of-date, and unknown chemicals and materials. Once properly packaged, Heritage personnel prepare the containers for shipment to meet all regulatory requirements, including labeling, manifesting the waste, and providing any additional required shipping documents. Based on generator preference, the waste is either removed the same day or scheduled on a milk run (less than full load).

Lab Pack Packing Standards

The contractor handling the material determines the standards, by which a generator's lab packs are managed and packaged. Thus resulting in different packaging and managing methods. Ultimately, the generator's goal should be to package in the largest allowable container available.

Many Lab Pack contractors utilize a "kiln ready" packaging system. This often leads to many smaller containers, resulting in unnecessary additional supply, transportation, labor, and disposal (Minimum) charges. Heritage does not utilize a "kiln-ready" pack system; we utilize the largest container allowable by law. Therefore, the generator always produces the fewest number of containers, generally avoiding minimums and additional shipping and handling costs.
