Heritage’s Onsite Service Program provides customers with customized programs run by industry experts to help manage your biggest environmental concerns. One of our most popular programs is our Environmental Assistance Program (EAP) which recognizes that our customers have different needs. We are able to design custom hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs which address those specific needs and present a plan to implement and assist in areas such as material and waste tracking, laboratory chemical moves, auditing and waste management, all backed up by our nationwide logistic and route system.
We also have a Design, Build and Operate Services Program which allows us to help our customers with solutions for Electric Arc Furnace Dust, Delisting, Wastewater Treatment, Steel Slag , Pickle Liquor Treatment, and Industrial Waste and Cleaning. “Heritage came to Nucor at it's mill in Indiana in 1999 with a three-step proposal to manage our Electric Arc Furnace Dust, a listed hazardous waste. The plan included treating the dust for land disposal, then administratively delisting the treated waste, and finally developing a technology to reuse the dust as a feedstock to manufacture products.
The resulting new technology that we call PIZO is changing the rules when it comes to managing this dust byproduct of our steel recycling mills. We get three products, no wastes, and relieve virtually all of the administrative burdens imposed by the EPA hazardous waste rules. Together with Heritage we are building the first plant in Arkansas to serve two of our mills. With the successful start up of the plant in the Spring of 2009, a decade long dream will have been realized. We expect more plants to serve the mini-mill industry to follow in 2010 and beyond.
