Zero Landfill/Zero Waste Programs
Zero Landfill and Beyond to Zero Waste, the concept is no longer new to companies that have embraced their sustainability. Heritage Interactive Services utilizes its ISO 9001 Certified AIM (Assess, Innovate, and Manage) process, a proven model to accomplish continuous improvement, in its efforts to achieve Zero Landfill and then Zero Waste.
Assess:
Heritage Interactive Services assigns a Single Point of Contact (SPOC – Program Manager) to work directly with local facility personnel on all aspects of your customized By-Product Program. Heritage Interactive Services utilizes our internal expertise and the knowledge of our many service partners to review the how and why of By-Product generation and the current disposition practices. By-Product analysis includes generation locations and quantities, collection containers and methods, movement within the facility, shipment methods and frequencies, final disposition, and all associated costs.
Innovate:
We are interested in more than the unit price paid for services; we want to help our customers determine what services they need, at the most environmentally compliant and economically feasible quantity and frequency. After implementation the Heritage Interactive Services system generates a By-Product Management Plan (BPMP) for each facility. The BPMP documents delineate complete disposition and cost information, management methods, associated policies and procedures, service partner detailed information, equipment utilized in service and the expected cost improvements. Zero Landfill Plans are also generated when a firm target date for goal accomplishment nears, i.e. less than 12 months.
Heritage Interactive Services may recommend changing equipment or the installation of more automated features to assure maximum utilization of assets and personnel. Heritage Interactive Services may recommend and provide on-site personnel dedicated to the success of established goals. A business case will be prepared to analyze the cost of innovations, including labor savings for our customer.
Manage:
Program Managers may change service providers and service levels, assuring the change does not impact Customer's operations/process flow, as required to meet changing customer needs and accomplish overall program goals. Program Managers work directly with facility personnel and Heritage Interactive Services service partners to assure a smooth transition of any additional recommended changes. Heritage Interactive Services will become the customer for each service provider, while our customers will always remain the generator. Heritage Interactive Services will begin receiving and paying all supplier invoices as implementation is completed. Heritage Interactive Services will manage service and assist with any potential challenge or change. The By-Product Management Plan becomes a "living" document that will be modified each time a continuous improvement is implemented.
The AIM process repeats again and again as the Program Manager continues to work with the facilities on a regular basis.
Heritage Interactive Services has implemented our Comprehensive By-Product Management Program and ancillary services at over 2000 customer manufacturing and other locations throughout North America over the past ten years. Five years ago, only one customer had achieved zero landfill. We have helped over 50 accomplish Zero Landfill since that time and over 80% of customer locations now have firm dates established to achieve Zero Landfill.
Heritage Interactive Services is not finished assisting those that have achieved Zero Landfill. Continuous improvement efforts are still underway. In 2010, we can say that one customer has achieved zero waste. How many will accomplish that goal by 2015? Our estimate is 500!
