Our History
Heritage Environmental Services is one of the premier environmental services firms in the United States. Our rich history tells the story of a company dedicated to providing innovative solutions to customers in a myriad of industries.
Beginnings
In 1970, our company was founded in Columbus, Indiana under the name Industrial Liquid Waste Disposal to reclaim waste oils. Soon, additional capabilities included treatment for hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. In 1978, we constructed a state-of-the-art processing facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. This facility is still one of the most robust treatment facilities in the United States. In 1981,
we built and continue to operate a RCRA landfill in western
Indiana for the secure disposal of treated solids generated from treatment and reclamation operations.
Growth
Throughout the 1980s, the rapid growth of the environmental market provided unique opportunities for expansion; processing facilities were added in North Carolina, Missouri and Illinois. Other services were added, including Transportation, Laboratory, Environmental Engineering and Consulting, Remediation, and Parts Washer Service. With this full-service offering, the company quickly became known as the premier environmental services company in the Midwest. In 1987,
we changed our name to Heritage Environmental Services to better reflect our products and services.
Expansion
Heritage Micronutrients was
formed in the 1990s. Heritage's R&D team developed a technology that converts waste etchants from the circuit board industry into a high-purity micronutrient for animal feed. Heritage Micronutrients is now one of the largest suppliers of copper micronutrients in the United States.
Allegiant
Global Services (originally known as Heritage Inter@ctive
Services, LLC) was developed as a spin off company by
Heritage Environmental Services approximately seven years
ago to meet the changing needs of Heritage customers. Allegiant
Global is a certified minority business enterprise (MBE) and a leading
international provider of by-product management solutions. Moving from
discrete purchasing of waste disposal services on a
plant-by-plant basis to a comprehensive program custom
developed for each customer by a Preferred Supplier has
become a successful business model. And along the way,
Allegiant Global has evolved from being a waste disposal
manager for our customers, to becoming their “By-Product
Solution Manager.”
Allegiant offers sole sourced By-Product Management
(including hazardous waste, industrial/non-hazardous waste,
universal waste, recyclables, refuse/general trash, and all
other waste by-products). We are actively providing
these services to manufacturing facilities and other
business locations across
North America
. We are currently expanding our services to include
other manufacturing support services and other geographies
outside of
North America
. Efforts toward providing services in South America
and
Europe
are underway.
That same year, Heritage also reached agreement with VonRoll
America, Inc. to become the sole stockholder of the
Heritage-WTI hazardous waste incinerator in East Liverpool, Ohio. The
RCRA-permitted facility was the first commercial incinerator
in the United States to demonstrate compliance with the
EPA's Maximum Achievable Control Technology standards."
Heritage Today
Heritage's continued growth is attributed to the principles on which the company was founded - safety, conservative management and disposal practices, superior technology, and customer and employee satisfaction. Today, Heritage is the largest privately held environmental company with nationwide capabilities and locations.
